About

Welcome in! I’m Kendra and I love words, running, British and Latin American literature, and I love to see the light in dark places.

I started this blog in 2016 as a way to update people on our adoption journey.  We adopted domestically in 2017 and had another baby in 2018. We have two sons and they are such blessings (hardest but most rewarding work).

I am married to Bryan and we live outside of Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve basically lived in Georgia for most of my life, but I’m not quite a true southerner. My dad is from Miami and my mom lived and traveled all over when my granddad was in the army.

I went to school and double majored in English Literature and Spanish. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but now things seem to be coming together. I worked as a Spanish teacher to littles, a high school English teacher and took a different turn in 2015. Realizing that I was not getting any younger and feeling more and more exhausted by public school teaching, I started to reevaluate my future. At the time I desperately wanted to be a mom, but it wasn’t happening. The verses that God spoke within me were Psalm 27: 13-14 “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” God reminded me over and over again of the true passions he stirred within me long ago—always about fairness, justice, and a sense of right and wrong. He established those foundations within me as a child and they flourished through time spent in Mexico, working with immigrants in the US, and through a passion against human trafficking.

I began my new adventure at a local nonprofit in Atlanta that works nationally against human trafficking by helping victims and survivors to rebuild their lives, giving them opportunities for next steps in reaching their dreams. I consulted with over 30 organizations across the country to establish an anti-trafficking nonprofit in their cities. I’m so thankful for the work being done by many, mostly unseen and unnoticed, working long hours for sometimes no pay. They volunteer their time because of their passion and inspiration to see people free of the difficulties that bind them and ready to venture into the beauty of their dreams.

God’s plan shifted my trajectory again by calling me home for a season to be with my two boys. After two babies back to back in two years and the pandemic, I needed to rest, both in the physical and emotional sense. He called me to rest in the truth of his word and who he’s created me to be, but also in putting down work and performance.

Since I’ve had more time, I started writing to process the world around me—inside my home and outside in the world. Thank you for reading and thank you for joining me in this! I hope to provide encouraging content pointing to the truth.

“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” Colossians 2:2-3
